The Waynesboro Communities That Care, Inc. (CTC) is a community-based program that promotes positive youth development. Through this program community members review factors that influence their youth, prioritize the factors they believe are most important, and implement effective prevention strategies that address their specific community needs. The Waynesboro Communities That Care, Inc. (CTC) uses assets within our community, schools, family, and peer groups to develop strategies to prevent problem behaviors among our community’s youth.

POSSIBLE AREAS OF CONCERN AMONG THE COMMUNITY’S YOUTH

1) Substance Abuse
2) Delinquency
3) Teen Pregnancy
4) School Drop-Out
5) Violence

In the fall of 2002, an advisory committee was formed to determine the gaps in prevention services to the Waynesboro youth and families. The committee included representatives from county organizations and the Waynesboro community. This advisory committee began the task of creating solutions to fill those gaps. The advisory committee held monthly meetings and by the spring of 2003, became the Waynesboro Area Community Prevention Collaborative (WACPC). The Waynesboro Area Community Prevention Collaborative is dedicated to working toward programs in the community and schools dealing with drug abuse and alcohol abuse prevention.

WHAT WILL DRUG PREVENTION DO FOR OUR COMMUNITY?

IT WILL: (1) educate our children to the dangers that come with tobacco, alcohol, and drug use; (2) motivate our children to think more of their own well being; (3) educate our children on how to make good choices; (4) promote better academic performance and teach our children to deal with peer pressure effectively; and (5) encourage our children to REFUSE TO USE!
